What’s your shop minimum?
Our shop minimum is $80. That covers setup, supplies, and your artist’s time, even for small tattoos.
How much does a tattoo cost at Good One Tattoo?
Prices depend on size, detail, and placement. Smaller pieces start at our $80 minimum. Larger or custom work is priced by the artist. Stop by for a free quote.
Do you take walk-ins?
Whenever we can. Walk-ins are welcome daily, but it depends on artist availability. The best way to snag a spot is to message or call ahead at 815-242-1120.
Do you do touch-ups?
Yes. We stand behind our work. If your tattoo needs a touch-up after healing, contact your artist directly to set it up.
Can I bring my own design?
Absolutely. Bring your concept, reference photo, or rough sketch — we’ll make sure it translates well as a tattoo.
Do you tattoo hands, necks, or faces?
Sometimes, depending on the design and your existing work. We’ll talk it through first to make sure it’s the right move.
What should I do before getting a tattoo?
Eat beforehand, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol or blood thinners. Bring your ID and wear comfortable clothing that gives access to the tattoo area.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
Most tattoos take 2–4 weeks to fully heal. Follow your artist’s aftercare instructions for the best results.
Can I get tattooed if I’m under 18?
No. Illinois law requires you to be 18 or older for tattoos — no exceptions.

Can minors get pierced?
Yes, under specific conditions:
The minor must personally ask Mike for the piercing.
They must have a school ID or state-issued ID.
A parent must be present with their own photo ID and the minor’s birth certificate.
Do you pierce ears, noses, and navels?
Yes. Mike offers a full range of professional piercings including ears, nostrils, brows, and navels. Call or stop in for availability.
Do you use sterile equipment?
Always. Every needle and setup is single-use, opened fresh, and disposed of properly. Safety is the top priority.
Can I bring a friend?
Sure, one supportive friend is fine. We just keep the vibe calm and focused in the piercing area.
Booking and Gift Cards
Do I need a deposit to book an appointment?
Yes. A $50 deposit locks in your spot and goes toward your tattoo total. Deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred if you reschedule with enough notice.
Do you honor Proton Tattoo gift cards?
Yes. All Proton Tattoo gift cards are still accepted here at Good One Tattoo.
Can I buy a new Good One Tattoo gift card?
Definitely. Stop by or message us — we have both physical and digital options available.
Do you offer refunds on deposits or gift cards?
No, but deposits can be transferred to a new date with notice. Gift cards never expire.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash and most major credit or debit cards. Tips are always appreciated but never expected.
Can I reschedule my appointment?
Yes. Contact your artist or call the shop at least 24 hours in advance to move your appointment and keep your deposit valid.
What if I’m late to my appointment?
If you’re running late, call or text us at 815-242-1120. After 15 minutes with no notice, your deposit may be forfeited and your spot opened up.
Safety and Aftercare
Is your equipment sterile?
Every single time. We use disposable needles, tubes, and barriers — all opened in front of you and safely disposed of after use.
Do you use vegan ink?
Yes. We carry high-quality, cruelty-free inks. If you have allergies or specific concerns, let your artist know ahead of time.
How do I care for my new tattoo or piercing?
Your artist or piercer will go over full aftercare instructions with you. We also have digital healing info available in-shop via NFC tap or QR code.
Can I get tattooed or pierced if I’m sick?
If you’re not feeling well, it’s best to reschedule. We want you comfortable and healing properly.
Are your artists licensed?
Yes. All of our artists and piercers are fully licensed with the Illinois Department of Public Health and follow strict sanitation guidelines.

We’re at 125 S. 4th St., DeKalb, Illinois — same spot that used to be Proton Tattoo. Free parking is available in the public lot behind the building.
